The cost of ownership begins with tax, title and license fees the day the vehicle is purchased. Next is the cost of capital, which is the interest expense if the car is financed or the lost interest income if the car is purchased outright. Maintenance and insurance are paid regularly and then depreciation expense is calculated by taking the purchase price and subtracting the value of the car when it is sold.

1) Tax & Title
The cost of ownership begins with tax, title and license fees. Plan on spending $15,000 - $20,000 before you even take the first drive.
2) Interest / Cost of Capital
Financing a supercar isn’t cheap - and if you purchase the car outright, the cost of capital is even more because of tied-up cash. Figure at least $15,000 a year for this.
3) Insurance
Coverage for a supercar is different than your daily driver. Realistically, expect to pay around $5,000 a year and be prepared for serious limitations in the policy.
4) Vehicle Maintenance
Annual service can run $5,000 and tires cost at least $2,000 for a set of four. Expect the unexpected, and don’t rely on it being covered under warranty. Allocate $2,500 per year at a minimum.
5) Depreciation
Like conventional cars, expect to see your prized possession lose 30-40% of its value over a three-year period. Even more for high mileage or if any Carfax issues are reported. Estimate $35,000 - $40,000 per year and you’ll be right on track.
6) Total Cost
In total if you are looking to get a supercar with an MSRP of $250k to $500k, you are looking to pay about $60,000-$90,000 a year for just one vehicle.
