Back in 2017 when Hennessey debuted the F5, we predicted they would be the first to hit 300MPH…and all these years later, we seem that we could be correct. After SSC tried, but ran into ruling issues, and Bugatti not making any real attempts that could be confirmed, Hennessey had a door opened to go prove to the world, they could be the ones to do it.
In 2021, Hennessey took its spectacular Venom F5 supercar to Pebble Beach. The result was that the remaining examples sold out before the weekend was over, and those with a few million to spare may now be ruling their decision to hold out. Not only does it look amazing, but those attention-grabbing design elements all play a role in helping this become one of the fastest cars ever made.
To help it achieve that goal and ultimately break the 300-mph barrier, the Venom F5 has been undergoing high-speed testing of late, and the result is documented in the video below. Look and watch as the American-designed, American-made, and American-powered supercar clocks over 270 mph with ease.
In fact, the car manages to reach an insane 271.6 mph, with the driver shifting at 268 mph, so there's plenty more to come. Spencer Geswein was the daredevil behind the wheel but achieving the Venom F5's highest recorded speed so far was not the goal. In fact, the team was at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds to perform the final calibration of the suspension, braking, and overall aerodynamic and engine performance. Interestingly, this is more than the Venom GT could ever achieve, as that car topped out at 270.4 mph back in 2014. Nevertheless, founder John Hennessey makes it very clear that achieving at least 300 mph is still very much a part of its future and that this goal has been part of the F5's DNA from the very beginning of the design process.
Venom F5 chief engineer John Heinricy will no doubt be happy that technical development is now complete, but the work is still far from over. For now, Hennessey will be taking a break from high-speed testing and will focus on delivering customer cars, with as many as a dozen finding their new owners this year. That said, there will be more high-speed action to come as the "journey to 300 mph" will continue toward the end of the year. We look forward to seeing this engineering masterpiece continue to push boundaries over the coming months, and as more cars are completed, we expect to see stunning displays at Pebble Beach and the like once again.
