Swing Hard, Drive Fast

Recently, the Freedom Supercars team, along with some of our members, played in a private golf tournament. Special shoutout to Grady and the team at Arete Medical Services for getting us plugged in! The weather was perfect, the banter between teams was strong, and the balls were flying far. It was a great day, for a great cause.

This tournament has been a Houston tradition since 1997, created with one goal in mind: to raise money through local companies to support charities in immediate need of funds. Over the years, it has donated more than $1.5 million to organizations like Ronald McDonald House, the Orthopedic and Research Foundation, the Leukemia Society, the American Heart Association, the Good Samaritan Foundation, the 100 Club, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, and many other local groups.

This year’s tournament supported the UT Ortho Residents Fund, Faith in Practice, the Good Samaritan Foundation, the Ft. Bend Women’s Shelter, Ronald McDonald House, the First Tee Program, the 100 Club, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s an honor to stand beside other local organizations and individuals who share the goal of helping others, both in moments of urgent need and through long-term impact.
One of our club members and his team even won the golf tournament with an incredibly -23 score. While the tournament was full of laughs and great competition, it’s always important to remember that we’re privileged to help others through these experiences, and that’s what really counts.

And it got me thinking. Golf really is a lot like driving a supercar.
Both demand focus. On the course, every shot requires precise attention. A slight misalignment, a subtle change in wind, or a misjudged slope can send your ball off course. Behind the wheel of a supercar, focus is just as critical. Every turn, every acceleration, every braking point must be exact to get the perfect line.

Both reward skill, patience, and timing. In golf, a well-timed swing produces a satisfying shot that seems effortless. In a supercar, perfectly timed gear shifts and throttle control deliver a rush of speed and control that’s equally satisfying.

Both offer a sensory experience that’s hard to match. In golf, it’s the feel of the club, the sound of a clean hit, the sight of the ball soaring through the air. In a supercar, it’s the growl of the engine, the feedback from the road, the feeling of raw power under your hands. Both engage your senses fully, making you live in the moment.
Both create community and camaraderie. On the golf course, friendly rivalries spark laughter and stories. Behind the wheel, car enthusiasts share that same energy, swapping driving tips, marveling at performance, and celebrating milestones. Both bring people together around a shared passion.

Both challenge you to improve. Golf tests your patience, consistency, and mental toughness. Driving a supercar pushes your skills, precision, and confidence. The more you practice, the more you refine, the more reward you get.

In the end, whether you’re sinking a birdie putt or cruising down an open road in a Ferrari, it’s about the thrill of mastery and the joy of the experience. That’s what makes both golf and driving supercars so addictive.

So next time you step onto a course or into the driver’s seat, remember, it’s not just a game or a drive. It’s an experience, and for those who love it, every moment is worth savoring.
